Accompany Doula Care and Pillar Search & HR Consulting are pleased to announce the appointment of Leslie Scales to the position of Executive Director.

In her role as Executive Director, Leslie will move Accompany Doula Care to the next stage of development to a sustainable and growth-oriented organization. Leslie shares that the “mission to expand access to compassionate, evidence-based doula support, especially for families facing systemic barriers to maternal health equity, deeply resonates with my values and professional experience. What excites me most about Accompany Doula Care is the opportunity to advance maternal and child health by addressing inequities in access to care.”

Leslie’s professional background includes working with diverse populations who face barriers to healthcare and social support. She has consistently championed initiatives that improve outcomes through education, advocacy, and direct service. Mos recently, she was the Executive Director of the Metrowest Free Medical Program, a fully volunteer-staffed free medical clinic offering women’s health, general medicine, and vision care for those without coverage. Earlier roles have included Executive Director of New England Affordable Housing Management Association and the Northeast Regional Director of the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center. She spent several years consulting as Director of Leadership Dynamics, where she was instrumental in launching the International Leadership Institute for Women. Leslie is a graduate of Babson College.

About Accompany Doula Care: Accompany Doula Care (“Accompany”) is a Massachusetts-based nonprofit (501c3) doula collective working to integrate doula support into healthcare systems to increase access for families who otherwise face barriers to doula support. They have a team of amazing, diverse community doulas who support clients from a variety of backgrounds across Massachusetts. Through their work, they hope to expand access to doula services to birthing people of color and populations most at risk of birth and maternal health inequities. Accompany Doula Care is different in that they do not currently take private or self-pay doula clients. They work with contracts tailored for healthcare institutions (insurance providers, hospitals, clinics, and others) who primarily serve MassHealth/Medicaid-eligible clients and/or other clients who have high risk factors. Delta Projects is more than just a non-profit human service agency. Their 400+ staff members positively impact the lives of over 200 individuals across 20 communities in Southeastern Massachusetts.

Delta Projects was founded in 1976 as an innovative program to help families keep children with intellectual disabilities at home and out of state-run residential programs. That early respite and family training program was soon followed by a community-based residential program which, like all programs of its kind, had its origins in the deinstitutionalization movement of that period. Bringing individuals into the community, rather than segregating and isolating them, was the Delta Projects’ mission. OVERVIEW

Delta Projects is seeking a dynamic and experienced CEO to join and lead the team. The CEO is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the organization by working with the Board of Directors and the executive management team to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies, fostering a positive and inclusive environment, and driving continuous improvement in service delivery to ensure the highest standards of care and support for Delta Projects’ residents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operational Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to a team of seven direct reports overseeing all functions, ensuring adherence to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures. The team of 7 direct reports in turn manage 400+ employees.
  • Strategic Alignment: In collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, develop and manage agency goals and objectives, providing valuable insights and recommendations. Work closely with each department to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Commitment to Quality: Monitor and evaluate service delivery to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and uphold Delta Projects’ standards of care while also being a future-thinker who envisions new and innovative programs and services for the residents of Delta Projects.
  • Employee Recruitment and Development: Ensure effective employee recruitment, training, and development to promote organizational effectiveness and professional growth at all levels. Ensure that hiring is deeply rooted in mission alignment. Foster staff engagement at all levels of the organization, and promote a strong, positive, values-driven organizational culture.
  • Collaboration: Foster effective collaboration and communication with funders, families, and other stakeholders to promote operational excellence and client-centered care. Focus on maintaining the collaborative spirit of the Delta Projects’ culture.
  • Communication: Ensure consistent and transparent communication with the executive leadership team, board of directors, and the overall organization.
  • Project Leadership: Help to lead and oversee a diverse range of highly strategic projects, including systems implementations, process improvements, and reporting initiatives in partnership with leadership and employees.
  • Budget Management: Partner with the CFO and the board Finance Committee on budget planning and financial management, optimizing resources while ensuring cost-effectiveness and ensuring that Delta Projects continues its track record of financial stability and sound financial management and ensuring long-term fiscal sustainability.
  • Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong partnerships with funding sources, government agencies, policymakers, and other organizations serving those with intellectual disabilities.
  • Other responsibilities will exist, and new ones may be added as required by the CEO role, staff needs, and/or the Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 15-20 years of related leadership experience. Advanced degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • While we will consider strong leaders looking to newly work in the nonprofit field, those candidates will need to have strong familiarity with nonprofit organizations such as experience working in a related state agency or Board of Director/volunteer experience within a nonprofit organization(s).
  • Possess personal values of trustworthiness, caring, and deep commitment to bettering the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities, traumatic and acquired brain injuries and other developmental challenges.
  • Ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and guide investment in people and systems; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills, which support and enable sound decision making.
  • Experience creating, implementing, and tracking a strategic plan.
  • Proven coalition-building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; a persuasive negotiator able to achieve consensus amongst differing opinions.
  • Professional presentation and communication skills and the experience and proclivity to be an outgoing spokesperson, relationship builder, and support builder.
  • Strong commitment to the professional development of staff; successful track record of recruiting, engaging, and retaining a diverse and talented team.
  • Experience working with, reporting to, or serving on a nonprofit board is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, regulations and policies as they relate to the administrative and financial management of non-profit organizations.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong technology skills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Cooperative for Human Services (CHS) and Pillar Search & HR Consulting are pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Cooney to the position of Vice President of Programs and Services.

As Vice President of Programs and Services, Matthew will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for all CHS residential and individual supports programs and service areas and will be responsible for strengthening programs and services and ensuring an impact is made in the communities that CHS serves while fostering an organizational culture of accountability.  He will build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization including individuals, families, community partners, volunteers, and Commonwealth entities while continually reinforcing CHS’ mission, vision, and values. A member of the leadership team, Matthew will report to CHS’ CEO, Kevin Leahy.

Matthew is an experienced nonprofit leader and change agent with an entrepreneurial spirit who offers unparalleled execution and leadership skills with the ability to propel organizational goals, policies and metrics to a higher level. He joins CHS from RFK Community Alliance where he was the Vice President of Youth Services, providing leadership and oversight of youth treatment programs for at-risk youth and families within a dynamic non-profit organization.  Prior, Matthew was the Executive Director of Brookline Teen Center, a non-profit organization entirely funded by private donors that provides a safe place for teens to connect with one another, gain access to valuable academic support and engage in unique learning opportunities. Earlier in his career, he was in roles with Walker, Germaine Lawrence, and Boston College.

Matthew completed his undergraduate degree in Sociology at Colorado State University and completed his Master of Social Work (MSW) at Boston College. In addition, Matthew has a certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from Boston University.

UTEC and Pillar Search & HR Consulting are excited to announce that, following an extensive and competitive candidate search, Emma Concepcion has joined UTEC as their new Chief People Officer.

Reporting to UTEC’s CEO, Emma will be responsible for leading UTEC’s people and talent strategies, managing and mitigating organizational risks, and continuing the development of their human resource-related strategies, policies, and procedures. She will be a strategic advisor to senior leadership on a variety of issues, including employee relations, leadership development, organizational culture, and talent management, and will be play a key leadership role in supporting UTEC’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of management and embodying UTEC’s DEI vision in their work and workplace culture.

Emma joins UTEC from Bay Cove Human Services, where she was their Vice President of Human Resources and earlier was the organization’s Director of Human Resources. As a member of the Bay Cove leadership team, she established the workforce development team, was Co-Chair of the DEI committee, designed and implemented HR initiatives, enhanced staff retention and engagement, and aligned HR strategies with organizational objectives. While Emma was Bay Cove’s Vice President of Human Resources, the organization achieved recognition as one of Boston’s Top Places to Work for five consecutive years. Prior to her tenure in Human Resources at Bay Cove, Emma spent a decade as their Director of Housing. In addition to her human resources and human services expertise, Emma also has extensive mediation experience, as she spent several years participating in court mediation and mediation training as a member of the Harvard University Mediation Program, handling cases related to civil, housing, and harassment prevention orders.

About UTEC: UTEC is a nationally recognized program for justice-involved young adults. The program starts behind the walls of correctional facilities and intensive street outreach/gang peacemaking and transitions into an intensive program in the community post-release. The nature of their educational services, wraparound supports and counseling, social enterprise/workforce development, organizing/policy work, training institute, and innovative partnerships creates a variety of impacts in the lives of the individuals and communities they serve.

Last year, UTEC served over 600 young adults including a range of outreach activities, and approximately 150 young adults intensively through their comprehensive program. This is a well-deserved promotion from Sher’s most recent role with JVS as Senior Vice President of Programs. Sher joined JVS in 2016.

Reporting to JVS’ CEO, Kira Khazatsky, Sher will lead the core of JVS’ work – the development, quality, and delivery of JVS’s services. Sher will provide strategic leadership to the programmatic Vice President team to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and goals, and support and develop the programmatic VP team to achieve programmatic outcomes. She will collaborate with other principal executives to ensure long-term strategic planning and board management align with the organization’s mission and goals.

Sher brings extensive program, workforce development and leadership experience to the Chief Program Officer role. Prior to JVS, she worked at the Fish Family Foundation, where she developed and implemented a statewide citizenship initiative partnering with multiple community organizations, immigration attorneys, and volunteers to organize large-scale citizenship events across the commonwealth, and held roles in immigration and employment with Catholic Charities of Boston and in grants with United Way. Sher earned her master’s degree in nonprofit project management from Northeastern University and her bachelor’s degree in international relations and modern languages from Beloit College.

As the Director of Development, Griet will be a key member of the Treehouse Leadership Team, overseeing the organization’s fundraising and expanding its community of support across Massachusetts and nationwide. Griet will be responsible for setting fundraising strategy, managing the fundraising team, growing Treehouse’s resources by deepening engagement with individuals, corporations and foundations and raising the organization’s visibility in support of its big and bold vision. She will report to Treehouse Foundation’s Founder and Executive Director Judy Cockerton.

Most recently, Griet was the Executive Director of Acton-Boxborough United Way where she doubled the revenue in two years and engaged multi-stakeholder coalitions to address vital community needs. Prior to that, Griet was an international fundraising consultant, where she pioneered innovative and sustainable international major giving, corporate and foundation giving strategies with large and small nonprofits, museums, and universities across 15 countries and 4 continents. Earlier in her career, as East Coast Director for Flanders Investment and Trade, Griet partnered with Fortune 500 executives to locate their pan-European business operations in Belgium. Griet also co-founded the European-American Chamber of Commerce in the United States, today known as the Transatlantic Business Council (TABC).

Griet earned her Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University and her Master of Law from Belgium’s University of Antwerp.
